Evolving Intellectual Property Rights Skills for Athletes

Participation of IPR-A at the AZK–OBI Event on Industrial Property Rights in Thessaloniki

On May 6th, 2025, the IPR-A project was represented by Dinos Nikolaidis-Konstas, researcher and social scientist at Tero PC, at a significant event titled:
“Industrial Property Protection in Simple Steps”

The event was co-organised by the Alexandrian Innovation Zone (AZK) and the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), and took place at AZK’s headquarters, located at Filikis Etaireias 12 in Thessaloniki.

This informative session brought together stakeholders from the innovation ecosystem, with the aim of demystifying the legal and procedural steps involved in securing industrial property rights in Greece. Speakers provided practical guidance on patent protection, trademarks, utility models, and industrial designs, alongside case studies from Greek innovators and businesses.

As part of the IPR-A project’s mission to foster intellectual property awareness among athletes and youth, Dinos attended the event to stay informed on the latest practices and national frameworks regarding IPR. While the IPR-A project focuses primarily on education and capacity-building around Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as a pathway to dual careers, participating in such events reinforces our commitment to staying engaged with evolving regulatory and technological developments in the field.

The insights gained during the event will support the refinement of the project’s training materials and dissemination efforts. IPR-A continues to emphasise the role of IPR knowledge as a powerful tool for empowerment and transition beyond the athletic career—ensuring that young professionals are equipped to protect their creative ideas and entrepreneurial initiatives.

We thank AZK and OBI for hosting a valuable and well-organised session and look forward to continued dialogue and collaboration in this critical field.
